Our May program, Begonias in Habitat: Ecology, Adaptation & Advanced Cultivation, takes a closer look at how begonias live in the wild, and what that means for how we grow them.
Building on April’s exploration of structure and diversity, this program shifts focus to environment. Through a curated mix of in situ footage, maps, and guided visuals, we’ll “travel” across regions where begonias naturally occur, observing how climate, terrain, and ecological pressures shape their growth.
From forest understories and limestone cliffs to humid riverbanks and more exposed, seasonally dry habitats, we’ll explore how environment informs structure, and how that translates into more thoughtful cultivation.
Virtual participation is available for members only. Register by email at info@pnwbegonia.org. Registration closes on May 15. (Visit our Join page to become a member!)
Optional: Habitat Reflections
Participants are invited to share brief observations or questions related to their growing environments.
Examples:
• Conditions you find difficult to replicate
• Plants that seem especially sensitive
• Changes that have improved your results
Participants may also submit photos of their growing spaces or plants ahead of time for possible inclusion in discussion. Email photos to info@pnwbegonia.org by May 15.
